VILLAGE HISTORY

Details of Langford’s long and interesting history are to be found on various websites, in publications that Villagers have in their bottom drawers and in a whole manner of other places including people’s memories.

Village History

Here we seek to build a collection of all things associated with Langford’s history – a collection of collections.

We seek to include links, copies of anything of historic interest, photos, recordings of spoken memories, old family trees, old record books any old movies and such.

Anything associated with Langford in WW1 and WW2 would help fill a space surrounding these calamitous times.

Please donate to the collection anything you have regarding Langford’s history. The aim would be to make it available on-line via a picture, video or audio recording and add it to the collection with tags that make it searchable.

Primitive Methodist Chapel (The Old Chapel)

In the 19th century Protestant Nonconformity was embraced by up to half of Langford’s population, and a Congregationalist and a Primitive Methodist chapel were built in the village (Source BHO). The Methodist Chapel became a Doctors Surgery in the 1980’s and eventually a home. A Bible was donated to the Chapel in 1921 and it survives thanks to Ian and Ann (former residents). It is now in the Church Vestry with other ancient Bibles.
