On Saturday 29th February, the Cotswold Voices carried out an 8-hour singathon in the Brunel Centre, Swindon. It was held to raise money for the Prospect, an end-of-life hospice which provides invaluable care to patients and their families in and around the Swindon area. It is a cause that is very close to the hearts of all in the choir as one of our founder members, Jeanie Pugh, was cared for by the wonderful staff there in her final days.
The choir held their first singathon five years ago, and as we are celebrating our ten year anniversary this year, we felt it was fitting to do another one. Last time we raised nearly £8500 and we are determined to do even better this year.
A huge amount has already been made with lots of choir members receiving donations to their Justgiving pages, but the collection buckets were extremely heavy by the end of the day so we are sure that our final total is going to be incredible. The choir was brilliantly supported by the people of Swindon throughout the day, and many family members of the choir added their expert ‘bucket-shaking’ skills which made it all the more special.
The Cotswold Voices rehearse every Tuesday, term-time, at St Christopher’s School, Langford. It is a brilliant way to meet people and make friends for life, while enjoying the wonderful feeling that singing as part of a group can provide. Everyone is welcome and there is no need to be able to read music.
